A Capital Idea is an exciting, cross-curricular topic that immerses pupils in the story of London, our capital city. In the first half of the term, children explore London’s rich history, learning how the city was formed and developing a detailed understanding of the Great Fire of London and its lasting impact.

In the second half of the term, the focus shifts to geography, where pupils investigate London as a modern capital city. They study important landmarks, tourism, and physical features, while also exploring why capital cities develop in particular locations. Art and Design Technology are woven throughout the topic, alongside carefully chosen English texts, allowing pupils to respond creatively and deepen their learning across the curriculum.
