School Council

At Turvey Primary School, we value the pupil voice and enable this by having a School Council.  Each class has a School Council book, where children are free to write things that they would like the School Council to discuss. Each class also has a worry/communication box which the School Council were keen to put in place and helped to put into practice.

Every September classes from Year 1 to Year 6 vote for a male and female school council member, based on who they think will listen to varying points of view, be fair and are approachable and sensible and caring members of the class, as well as being confident enough to speak out.

The School Council have discussed items such as raising money for more equipment, ideas for helping the hall at lunchtime to be a calm, sociable atmosphere, rules for using the Trim Trail and voting for class names and the winners for World Book Day costumes.

The children meet with a teacher on a regular basis and minutes are kept of each meeting, which are put up on the School Council notice board and pinned on the staff board so that everyone is aware.
